Job Description

Bridge the Gap and Empower Independence as a 5th Grade Consultant Teacher

Fifth grade is a magical, transitional year as elementary students prepare to cross the bridge into middle school. Are you a collaborative "bridge-builder" who can co-teach seamlessly, differentiate naturally, and advocate fiercely for student equity? Greenville Central School District is looking for a Special Education Consultant Teacher to support our 5th-grade students in the least restrictive environment.

  • Why This Role is Unique: This is a dynamic, collaborative role designed for an educator who loves co-teaching and small-group instruction. As a consultant teacher, you will partner directly with general education teachers to co-plan and deliver inclusive curriculum, ensuring students with IEPs are fully integrated into our rich academic culture. Your guidance will directly foster the critical thinking, self-advocacy, and organizational skills they need to step confidently into the middle school campus.

  • The Greenville Advantage: Greenville's active professional development and structured planning time give you the space to collaborate deeply with your co-teachers, making sure your partnerships are highly effective, creative, and student-centered.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Provide direct and indirect consultant teacher services in the general education classroom, modifying instruction, tasks, and assessments to match student IEP accommodations.

  • Partner in co-planning with 5th-grade general education teachers to cultivate an inclusive, challenging, and universally accessible learning environment.

  • Write, implement, and track progress on IEP goals, with professional and empathetic advocacy.

  • Monitor student progress, collect IEP data, and build strong, transparent lines of communication with families to celebrate and support student growth.

  • Act as a resource for general education staff regarding accommodation strategies and assistive technology.

Job Qualifications
  • NYS Certification in Students with Disabilities (Grades 1-6).

  • Excellent co-teaching and communication skills, with a passion for working side-by-side with general education peers.

  • Strong organizational skills to manage IEP paperwork and coordinate student supports.
